I have my car stored in my garage for the winter.. I have the old style optima red top battery.. Now I start my car every other day just to do it.. I started it on Monday fine, go to start it Yesterday and the battery is dead again.. I charged it with a deep cycle marine charger a couple times before this, but it still keeps dying..
Could I be in need of a new battery? Is this the reason it keeps dying? There should be no reason why it doesnt start even if I only start it every other day..
Thanks for any info.

see if something somehow is draining on it....d/c the battery after you start it, and then see if its still charged when you come back...if its ok...then something is pullin on it ...............start there
alternator not recharging it maybe??
but i would start where DTP suggested then go from there
Something is draining it. Are all those electronics switched with the ignition?
how old of an optima red top (past expiration)? how cold is it by you?
Since you aren't driving it around at the moment disconnect it and charge out of the car. Hook up a volt-meter. What is the max it is reaching from your marine charger (and is the charger still good for that matter)?
Under 10V don't bother reading on, get a new battery.
10-11V you have a dead cell or two , get a new battery.
12-13V is fine.
Disconnect the charger and let the battery sit for a while out of the car, if it is unable to hold a charge, get a new battery.
If it still holds its charge after sitting out, then you've got a drain from an accessory in the car or a dying alternator. Before getting the alt checked might as well look into any amplifier or aftermarket audio equipment you've got hooked up. After my old amplifier went bad, the cooling fan and lit gauge face would stay on draining the battery down to 11.6V every night, just for comparison.
Well the only thing that stays on accessory wise is my dvd player thats in my glove box, it has a red LED light just showing its ready, not ON, but ready.. My alarm isnt hooked up so that cant be it, I have gauges hooked up but not constantly on..
btw,, Paul. what is d/c?
Thanks guys..

Oh, I forgot to add.. A few weeks ago I bought a brand new battery from autozone and put it in the car.. Unhooked the neg cable for a couple days and what do ya know..... The battery died when I tried to start it.
So I guess that tells me something is pulling on it even though the neg cable is not hooked up?

Battery will not drain if one of the leads is unhooked. It would have to be damn cold before the battery wouldn't start the car, like way below 0*.
I'd try disconnecting the DVD player and see if that's it. If not, try fuses (pull several at a time to make eliminating circuits faster).
I think you need to check the parasitic draw. If it is major, something may be shorting to ground. If it is minor, but still serious, start by unhooking things that could be drawing. Like the DVD player.

Thanks, yea imma unhook that when I get home.. Ill leave it unhooked until I start driving the car again.
