Broken driver's side mirror
Monday, October 02, 2006 1:14 PM
I woke up today and found my freakin' mirror hanging on the side of my car. It was a big football weekend and I think some drunkards probably broke it. The actual mirror isnt broken, it sill moves with the electric controls, but the springs came off so I tried to attach them back on (took forever). Now the mirror is really loose. Do you guys know how much someone would charge to put in new springs and fix it all up?

you might be better off just buying a used one from a junk yard or ebay. Most dealers would just replace it with a new unit. Try www.car-part.com

The only problem with him going to a junk yard is it might be hard for him to find a mirror that's colored since he has an LS Sport.
At least someone didn't hit your car with a brick like mine....they had to replace the mirror/repaint it and replace my drivers door glass and repaint my door.

I brought in my car to have the lower lip fixed and the guys there tried to fix the mirror -- they couldn't figure it out. They said that the springs must have just lost their elasticity and thats why the mirrors are loose. Do you guys know if thats it, just those two spring hooks that hold the mirror in?

They said they wanted to buy a whole new mirror to fix it, which is like 200 bucks...if its just the springs couldnt I just get some new ones?

3 bolts off, pop new one in, 3 bolts back on. Done. Springs're over stretched. NOT a high tech repair. Buy aftermarket, if you can; GM if you must.
