So I have a low coolant light and even though its right aroudn the coolant lien I add to amek the computer happy. On the way out to cali from il it happened about Nevada when I hit the mountains and curves. So I humored the light and filled when it came one then kept coming on eveyr 3 miles of so. SO I filled to the point that if was spilling over outta the gauge. So then it finally stopped bitching at me for a day or so then it came back on. So I checked it and bam almsot empty but normal temps. So I fill it completely again and nothing. I haven't seen t since but WTF was that all about. The family friend/mechanic pre-oped my car before I left and said it was more then good to go. I trust him with my car more then anyone ever. He has been a friend of the family and fixing our cars since before I can remember but wtf is up with my past problems. Was I burning coolant due to 18+ hours of straight driving for 3-4 days in a row.
Disclaimer:
Dey see me Trollin' Dey hatin' for trollin dey trying to catch me ridin dirty.

you should never be burning coolant, chance are its leaking from somewhere or the radiator is getting low, you are only filling the overflow tank.

jbodies are notorious for a coolant light. take our your overflow tank, clean out the water, flush it out really good, and put it back in. a lot of setiment (sp) builds up in it a screws with the sensor.
GO PATS!!!
My parents 01 Malibu did the samething, The overflow tank sensor was plugged.
What has happened is that you had is so low at one point the the sesor has become marded in dex cool sludge. Replace the coolant sesor and reflush your cooling system with a strong rad cleaner. The problem should be fixed then.
