About a year ago I got a little rod knock. I couldnt afford to buy the parts to build up the motor, so I bought a used one. We got it installed "me and the almighty car god". It runs but when it:s cold I hit 3 grand and it"s like i'm bouncing it off the rev limiter. Motor warms up i can exceed 3000, but with NO power. Intake sounds like a honda, at 4000 pulls hard but sounds like the motor is gonna blow. Air fulel doesn't read unless the pedal is to the floor, then reads rich. After driving for about 20 min. oil goes from 80 psi "cold" down to "20-25 psi" then gets real chattery. Idle is ruff, feels like a miss fire. You can feel the ruff idle shake the car. Got an opinion from Auto Zone they said the cat could be clogged hence the A/F not reading. Makes sense. The almighty car got replace the water pump before motor was installed. He clamis he locked the cams, but i'm thinking the timing might be off. 16 miles to the gal. is killin me. I need some help please. Thats sonds pathetic but it driving me crazy.

How's your O2 sensors?
Yeah, another guy said the same thing. But they"re both good. If the O2 sensors were bad they wouldn't cause me to get 16 mi per gallon, or the engine to get chattery, or loose oil pressure, and have no power abouve 3000 rpm.

If it is a 2.4 the timing is off, sucks to say but thats probably it. Or else it could be the fuel pump leaning out and then retarding timing.
My gfs car had the same prob, no power past 3k, it sounded awful. I rebuilt the motor and redid the timing and the car is running like a champ.

I never take advice from AutoZone. A GM clogged cat would make it hard at T.W.O. to accelurate. What it sounds like to me is that your Fuel Pressure Regulator is getting ether too much vaccuum or is stuck closed and is flooding your motor. Use a vac gun and an ODBII Scanner and watch your fuel trim.

Well the cat needed to be replaced anyway, so that is a must. If the regulater is stuck closed and flooding the motor, wouldn't it cause my a/f to read rich all the time? I took the car to a dealership to get an opinoin, and i don't know why i didn't think of it, but could a bad lifter be part of the problem. It makes some sense when it comes to the motor to get chattery after it reaches temperature.

where are you getting your a/f values from..?
where did you get the replacement motor from?
I'm gettin my a/f readings from a gauage on my A pillar. The motor was used, picked it up from a car that had been rear ended. No front end damage, and the motor ran fine at the junk yard.

Well, tomarrow me and a friend will be checking the timing. I figure its a good place to start. Any hints, tips, or tricks to make it easier?

I know this sounds kinda dumb but, how is your IAT, Intake Air Temperature Sensor. WIth that thing not reading well and/or not there ... it makes your computer get messed up.
dan
Yeah it's there,, and working fine. It's just process of elimination for now i guess.

Well over the weekend we cheked the timing. Turns out the exhaust cam was off one tooth. Got everything back together and no chattering at least not yet, runs great, a/f reads, & gas milage is better. But i still loose oil pressure after driving for a few miles, from 80 psi cold down to 25 psi after driving 20 min. Can anyone give help on that one??? Now if I get rid of the strep that i've had for the past 3 months life would be good.
