93 fuel pump problems
Tuesday, December 05, 2006 9:35 AM
my brothers 1993 cavy, 4 door fuel pump went out. The shop said it'd cost $500 to replace it since everything is all connected together. I'm getting the details second hand from my mother who knows jack about cars

I was wondering what its like to replace the fuel pump on these cars and if you really need to buy a whole bunch of stuff.

I've upgrade the fuel pump on my 02 Trans Am, but I have no idea hows these j-bodies are set up

thanks guys

i did a search, and I'm considering just putting the inline fuel pump myself.

for those of you that did that, does it work? how did you power the fuel pump? run a new power line down? did you disconnect power to the old pump?

thanks guys

also, i haven't looked, but i'm assuming where guys want to plug in the inline fuel pump, it is a hard line, not a rubber hose?

how are you guys connecting the pump to the hard line?

Drop the fuel tank and do it properly! It should not take more than two to three hrs to to it.Just buy a pump assembly ,discon everything hoses and etc u know and replace whole unit.I would highly not recomm doing what u suggested since the time it would take would prolly equal the time it would take to do correctly.I have replaced mine in my 85 by drpg the tank took me 3hrs to do and it was easy.

i think you completely missed the point of this post. $350 or whatever the assembly costs is insane. When I could get that inline pump for $100 bucks.

Take the power wires from the old pump and connect to the in-line pump. You might have to extend them a bit. Just make sure polarity is correct or pump will run backwards. Instructions will come with new pump.

I myself have not fitted an in-line pump yet, but my friend in California did and was very happy with the results. He also had a Cavalier. So sorry, I cannot remember what make of pump it was.

If I had to do it to my Cavalier I would use this one :

http://www.inlinefuelpumps.com/

I would use the GSL391 190PH because it has the correct flow and pressure rates for the Cavalier. Click at the bottom of their web page and you will get a flow and pressure graph for that model.
