car quites after getting warm

I have a friend that has a 95 or 96 cavalier 2.2 I think it is or it is the 2200. I'm not sure which. I havn't poped the hood on it yet because they are a little bit of a drive for me and I wanted to try and have thing figured out before making the trip down there. was told the car will start up and run. But after it gets warmed up to a certian degree it will completely die. Won't restart won't do anything. The person has been told a bunch of stuff and no one has yet to fix. Just take the money and run. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A TON of things can cause this.

Does it crank after dying?

Ah damn hit the button to fast. I have seen this problem a few times.

The fuel pump can cause this, the starter getting heat soaked can. The cat can do that as well, but you will notice a loss of power with a plugged cat. Also quite a few more things can do, I just think of then all right now

Does it just die, does it misfire before it dies, does it do it no matter what speed he is going?

More info is also needed.

Yeah, how it dies is really important... Any other problems besides dieing? (like loss of power for instance).

Displays loss of power to my knowledge. I will have to ask the person some more info on it. But i remember them saying it losses power or has lost power.

If, yes loss of power before it dies, and only dies when warmed up, check exhasut backpressure.

If you dont have a gauge for that, remove the O2 sensor before the cat, than drive the car ( dont worry wont hurt it)

Does it still die?

I would start with the simplest things first, i.e. carbon build-up in the throttle body, a dirty idle air intake valve, a clogged fuel filter,and/or a clogged air filter.
Or it could be something more serious such as spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil packs, or a fuel pump.

Or how about the ignition controll module. that can also cause this. if you have a napa auto parts they can test it for free
