Coolant leak? Tranny fluid leak?
Sunday, November 26, 2006 9:15 AM
Well, I've got a 95 Cavy with the base motor in it (believe it is the 2.2 correct?)
It's been sitting for the past 1/2 year as I only drive it in the winter. I came out to check on it, do whatever to it so it's in proper condition for driving. I noticed that I have a puddle of some type of fluid underneath the radiator. It will pour out like a faucet and the exact location is the drivers side underneath the bottom corner of the radiator.
I naturally assumed it was coolant but this is a dark orange/black type fluid (maybe rusty coolant) and my car uses the green coolant. I checked the tranny fluid and it is low but I have no idea what tranny fluid would be doing near the radiator. I was thinking oil as well but not sure how it works into it either.

Please somebody help me because this one has me stumped.
My gut says that it has to be the radiator (doesn't appear to be leaking from a hose) but I really don't know anymore.

At the bottom of your radiator you must have sustained
some kind of damage to the transmission fluid cooler
tank. Or, hopefully, just a transmission cooler line came
loose.....

Let us know...

Yea, I was thinking maybe it was a cooler line but I can't seem to see any leaking from a line. I really need to get it up on the lift but I'm not sure it would last all the way there.
Looks like I'll need to tow it there I guess.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully that's all it is.
Like I said, kinda weird it just springs a leak when it hasn't been driven in a while.
