2001 Pontiac Sunfire 2001 SLX porblems after problems... Not even 3 months that I own it!

2001 Pontiac Sunfire SLX (Canadian model designation for more options than the base model?), 2.2L, automatic, cruise control, NO A/C...

Bought this car at a GM dealer lot not even 3 months ago. It came with a "Total Plus" warranty of 90 days.

I paid the car 7250$ canadian (includind the 13.5% tax...) and similiar 2001 Sunfire where I live were selling for around 5000$ (tax included). So well, the sale person convinced me it was better to to buy from him because of this and that and what not.

Problems began right off the first day that I took possession of the car. I heard some noise when taking bump and turning the car. One coil spring in the front was broken! So they put in a used one (wasn't happy about that...).

After that, I was still hearing the sound... So took it back to the dealership 2-3 days after. the other front coil spring was broken too.

Next problem was my discs in the fronts that were rusted too bad to recover by themselves. I understand that this can be normal use.

The car had a low level of power steering fluid, so they checked it and it was the steering box or whatever it's called they said it was worth 1200$.

Car RPM was acting a little so I took it back to them. Air filter and spark plugs were so bad when I checked them not even 500 miles after I bought the car. So their supposed ultra-mega inspection of the car is false. Any mechanic inspecting a car in more than 150 points like they say should have seen that. They told me that at the time the mechanic inspected the car, he judged that they were OK. My a$$ yeah. I'm sure he took it in, and checked all the cases on his sheets... Fuel filter was also bad (that I understand they couldn't see it with an inspection)

Now, when I drive fast enough that the trans shift in overdrive, when I keep my speed steady, the RPM bounces up and down. Like it was going from 4 to 3, 3 to 4... Doesn't do it all the time, sometimes it's one time a day and it can do it for 2 minutes. They said they updated the computer of the car for this problem. I have an hard time blelieving that. It's not a desktop PC!!! They also said they were too much trans fluid... But that's because it's the original trans fluid so why in the hell would it had too much? I'm sure they removed some and put in a can of anti-friction stuff or something just so they don't have to change something in the trans. What do you think???

It's about all the stuff I had go wrong in not even 3 months and not even 2000 miles...

On a side note, you are better off buying from someone than a dealer. Returned locations are @!#$ because their owners didn't take care much of them since they were not their car...

You need to understand that Dealership like people like you. Since you seem to know nothing about car, they screw you big time.

Start searching and asking question to do the repair yourself and you'll save yourself alot of trouble.

It's almost impossible to have both springs broken for an 01. They must have change the mount and charge you for springs.

Next time, other than taking it to the dealership, you come here and ask a question. Also, put your nose under the hood once in a while and it will save you some cash.

First of all they lied to you.... they didn't change the springs... they changed the mounts thats why there are used springs on there because those are the ones you've had.

Secondly, you should be glad you bought your car at a GM dealership... I regret buying my car from a private dealer because I found out that it was repaired and sold to me and there were many other things wrong with it that should have been fixed. On top of that they just pick out the crap from the auction and sell it off for much higher profit where as GM dealership have a reputation to uphold and want the best to sell.

If you still have the warranty.. talk to your salesman, service mgr, if that doesn't straighten it out go to another dealer. I know Sunfires/Cavaliers are great cars and they do have their problems just like any other car.

My car was under warranty a 90 days "Total Plus" warranty when it all happened. I did not pay for everything. I had for about 2000$ for everything and paid about 400$.

They really changed both front springs I was there when they changed it each time. I'm sure it's because the car was in the lot for a couple of months. So everything rusted and when I drove it, it broke.

I've never seen a spring break from just sitting... that's unheard of.
