Most miles on a single tank of gas
Thursday, November 02, 2006 2:01 PM
The most miles I've gotten on a single tank is 446, right after the fuel light came on at 12.5 gallons. 500 miles on 14.1 gallons is more than 35 mpg!!

What are the most miles you've gotten on a tank?

I bought my Cav in March 05 and averaged 25 as I got used to driving it smoothly. I live in Northeast Ohio, the snowbelt, and it sucks!

IN summer 05 I averaged 33 with a high of 36. In the fall I got a new air filter at speedy (26k) to replace the original. But I've never gotten higher than 33.5, even in warm (80 F) weather since. Granted, the car now has 44k, after I bought it with 17k, but I thought mileage wouldn't start falling off until 60 or 70k due to general age.

Right before the needle moves past first notch (These are all rough estimates because the markings aren't that accurate)

24 mpg=30-35 miles elapsed
29 mpg=50-55 miles elapsed
34 mpg=75-80 miles elapsed

At the 1/4 mark
24 mpg=95-105 miles elapsed
29 mpg=120-125 miles elapsed
34 mpg= 150-155 miles elapsed

At the 1/2 mark
24 mpg=165-170 miles elapsed
29 mpg=200-205 miles elapsed
34 mpg=230-240 miles elapsed

At the 3/4 mark
24 mpg=235-240 miles elapsed
29 mpg=285-290 miles elapsed
34 mpg=340-350 miles elapsed

you should fill up right below the needle drops below the notch (it will give you 10 gals. on the dot)

Once the fuel light comes on you have 1 to 1.25 gallons left, depending.

Try checking the mileage driving due North, the check again driving due South, over the same distance. Try it over say, 100 mile drive. Tell us the results.

Been avaraging 27-29mpg, I imagine it would be better if I didn't have to deal with creaping speeds of rush hour.

i have no idea and dont care to find out.... because my gauge does not function correctly.... so i have to use the ole Tripometer and just fill up every 300 miles.
i really dont feel like driving until it runs out and getting stuck in the middle of nowhere (i live out in the boones)

i achieved 400 to the tank on my road trip to cleveland and back from indy. that was going on average 90 mph. the light was on as i was i cruisin to find a gas station and our last exit to a buddy's house at 4 am. i usually average 300+ per tank. i hate winter tho cuz it usually drops to 250+.

Same here. My gauge hasn't worked for 3 or 4 years now. Every 300-325 miles I just fill it up.

And back when my gauge worked, the fuel light came on with about 2 gallons of fuel left.

In my 04, I usually get around 33 mpg. If I run premium fuel, and drive the posted speed limit, I can get 35 or 36mpg. In my old 98 2200 I could get around 40mpg big difference.....

693 kms on one tank... from completely full to dead empty... on a 2000 Z24 auto, pretty stock... on the way from Thunder Bay, ON to (almost) Sault Ste Marie, ON on the way to the 01 Bash in Lordstown, Ohio..

Never even come close since that tho... never ran another tank completely dry.

I've gone ~470 miles once before (about 38mpg). That was starting and ending in the same place, doing about 55mph the whole way, stopping only once, ideal weather. 2.4L stock. I normally get around 24 to 28 mpg driving around the city (mix a little freeway).

Did a run the other day totaling about 1000 miles with a trailer and several hundred pounds in the trailer, got 22mpg doing 70 to 75mph.

I normally get 32-34 mpg on highway trips with the cruse set at 68, and 14-16 mpg at the track.

Hmm, not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I have 2.2 OHV, and with the cruise set to about 75, I usually get aroundk 325-350 miles to a tank. This is with me, my wife, and 2 kids in the car as well. Also, this is me driving from CT to Ohio, driving through the hills of Pennsylvania and such, so I guess 350 isn't that bad.
