Anyone know why this tach is reading low? No CELs and no codes in cpu. Did a search and looks like maybe these things may read a few hundred off or is there something going on here? Also does the rev-limiter limit the rpm to about 4k rpm when in neutral or park?
I know the rev limiter is set at 4000 RPM on a 3800 (L27, L36, L67). I would imagine it is the same on your engine.
As far as the low idle: Does it sound low? If so, hook up a scan tool and check it and go from there.

It doesn't sound low, and a actual low rpm would set a cel I would think, i'm gonna hook up my ol engine diagnostic tool, big black sears craftsman box that will test engine rpm based off the plug wires.
Too bad my vag-com I had for my VW doesn't work.

Have you opened the cluster at all since you've owned the car?
