ABS not working
Saturday, November 04, 2006 8:53 AM
(2002 Ecotec)

I drove to best buy while the roads were wet... went in for an hour to buy an xbox 360... came back out of best buy to find my car covered in ice... started car and everything was working fine with the exception of my ABS. the ABS display was illuminated and the car had/still has no antilock brakes. the brakes are fully functional, they just lock up. I am able to drive the car fine as it is.

Could ice have built up on the sensor(s) in each wheel causing the whole system to fail?
Could simply thawing my car out fix the problem?
How much does it generally cost to have somebody scan my ABS system with the computer?
Could driving my car potentially contribute to the ABS problem and make anything worse?
Is there any other information I should know about my antilock braking system?

I think the ice has just caused the abs sensors to not work for a bit, Until the ics melts off, Heres a trick I use all the time, get some metholhydrate this product acts as a de-icer, add it into a spray bottle, try spraying around youre front & rear abs sensors (requires taking off the tires & rear brake drums. It should free up the ice build up, If that doesnt correct it, Could have a problem with one of the sensors. Then after I would disconeect the Neg post on the battery and allow the cars ecu to reset, after 2 mins or so, hookup the neg post, Hopefully that will correct youre trouble.

Good Luck
