my 02 has about 42,000.
when i go above 35 mph i hear 'crackling' noises from the front, maybe by the base of the windshield? Quick, popping, crackling sounds. i looked around the forums and searched but didn't find anything.
When I go over rough bumps it sounds like pieces are crashing into each other and something is loose. On smooth roads I don't hear it as badly. It also is mainly during turns and braking.
I considered it to be a wheel bearing, but I'm not sure.
my gm dealer told me that the front end problem is the strut towers, but I opened the hood and didn't see any rust forming around them. they said that the winters in ohio cause things to move around, which may be true, but why did i get this noise in the summer? I take care of my car and don't abuse it. it's low mileage.
it's just worriesome everytime i go over a bump that something's going to break.
Bearing Plates are bad, ie the strut mounts.
