3.1 V6 idle problem
Monday, October 23, 2006 12:16 AM
Ever since I bought my Cavy it has idled funny. Well, it kept getting worse until it would stall out as I approached any sort of stop. I replaced the IAC and TPS and the problem improved significantly. However, its still there. As I pull off the highway (70-75 mph) I slip it into neutral and the rpm's drop to approx. 7-800 and then shoot back up to 1500-2000 and repeats. It doesn't always do this though. It also idles a bit rough, wavering around 6-700 when I warm it up or let it sit anywhere. Another note: the problem was perfectly driveable until I killed the battery and had it jumped. That was when it got so bad it was "tricky" to drive without stalling.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a vaccume leak. Or try cleaning out the throttlebody and the passages where the idle air control is. There is also an idle relearn in the how to section of v6z24.com That is your best bet for your year of car.

Ur TCC switch is toast! Better know as the torque convertor clutch (switch or solenoid as stated above).U can do one of two things unplug it,it will cause NO harm to the car except ur mpg may go down a little or u can buy a switch which will cost u around 50-60bux on average.IF u do replace the switch u NEED to change ur automatic transmission fluid bc what in turn caused it to go bad is the fluid has lost it's protection properties of the trans and gets to hot and does not protect from heat and ends up frying the switch causing the car to stall when coming to a stop or going from reverse to drive etc.I would change the fluid and go new switch but that is soley up to you.And daskarr did advise this first just not in the detail as I have provided to help u better understand the why part I hope.
