Hello.
I need to know if it's possible and/or very difficult to remove the 4t4oe- 2.4 auto trans from the engine WITHOUT pulling the whole engine..
I figure I'll unhook all the motor mounts & move the whole engine as far over towards the passenger side as I can, remove that lower support, all mounting bolts and try to slide the trans off the engine & out from under the car basically; by tiliting that side..
I guess I will remove the bolts for the torque converter through the starter hole, if it's easier to pull w/o the torque converter still attached.
I just reinstalled the engine not too long ago & theres a problem w/ the rear main seal, or I left a plug out of the block... Im not sure- But It would be much easier to fix if I don't have to remove the engine as well...
Anyone who responds with some knowledge or experience is greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU!!!!

You can drop it out the bottom basically as you described. But why are you so against pulling the engine? It would be way easier in my opinion....
I just put it back in & got everything hooked back up...
It's just a real tight fit to get the engine in & out, & I'd like to do this with as little dis-assembly as possible...
hehe, tight

Yeah... Well- just to let everyone know..I ended up pulling the engine back out the top..
After I was ready to drop the engine down & sneak the trans out, I realized I could have the whole thing out with a few more bolts... Im glad I did pull it out the top, I forgot what a pain in the a$$ it is to hook the trans back up to the engine.. The 4t40e is heavy as balls !!!
I'm getting ready to pull my engine/tranny out the top also.....where is the best places to hook up the chains for the hoist?
