I got a sunfire GT..... my belt was making a terrible noise.... i looked at the belt and noticed that it was frayed a bit.....so i took off the belt... then i noticed that the bearing on my A/C pulley is shot..... i have no idea how to replace the bearing and was wondering if anyone has got any tips for me.... that would be greatly appreciated!
As far as i know the bearing cannot be replaced...you have to get a new unit...or you could just buy a smaller belt and overide your AC...but realize this option comes with MAJOR drawbacks.
Best of Luck
you can replace the AC pulley.....you do need a special puller for it though...if you do replace the pulley you should replace the clutch asm. too....but those compressors are servicable.........
i found it easier to replace the AC Compressor. to "properly do it"
- you need to get a technician to empty your system (i know this guy, that knows a guy, that loosened stuff on the AC to let the r-134 out)
- replace the compressor, condenser/dryer and the orifice tube.
i HIGHLY recommend if you are going to half do it... compressor and orifice tube need to be changed. (orifice tube is a filter type thing in the ac system)
you can go to your local parts store and buy some r-134 w/ a gauge and fill it yourself. easy.
don't forget to put oil (the amount should be listed on the paperwork w/ the compressor) 8oz? i forget, its been a while.
good luck
anyhow, if you have common sense, and want to save money... it's easily a do it your self thing... if you dont know what a wrench is.. i'd pay someone.
