Help with these 2.4 gaskets.. (PICS)
Tuesday, October 10, 2006 2:18 PM
Hopefully I can get some help in this thread, ulike others

Anyway, these are my camshaft housings to timing housing gaskets.. It was my understanding that the orange part is supposed to face the camshaft right?

Here is where my oil leak is coming from.

Now, this is the new gasket that I just held up there the same way. (IT LOOKS LIKE ITS ON WRONG)

This is the same gasket flipped around, (IT LOOKS LIKE ITS ON THE RIGHT WAY)

This is the gasket on the camshaft housing.. It looks correct right? Well the orange is facing the OPPISITE direction. Once again, im confused

This is the same gasket faced SUPPOSEDLY the correct way.. Look at the bottom.. It looks wrong, it doesnt match up with the housing.

Could someone PLEASE tell me the correct way the gaskets are supposed to be facing because as you can see in my first pic, this is why my oil is leaking..

Thx.

I just rebuilt my 2.4 engine using all replacement gaskets from Felpro..

The 2 camshaft housing gaskets that I got were exactly the same as well...

They both worked just fine- 1 was just flipped around the other way when installed... I dont think it matters which way the orange faces... It's pretty obvious if the gasket is not in the right spot due to thier shape... However, my engine is still awaiting an oil pump- so hopefully mine don't leak when I get it started..

I would clean it up real nice- and hit them up with a good gasket sealent & try for the best- make sure to properly torque the bolts.

Lemme know if you want to order new gaskets- I still have my gasket box around & could get you a part number if you needed it.

Thanks man, thats what I was thinking.. Is to flip the gasket around, but i wasnt sure if it would matter if I do that or not..
So when you flipped your gasket, did you put your gasket sealer on the gasket or the camshaft housing end?

I might wait until I can see if I can order the exhaust gasket because this is the 5th time that Ive taken this all apart to try to find out where my oil is coming from lol.. .

I sprayed the whole gasket- both sides... Its just a tacky spray.

yeah, you need to flip one to hide the holes fro the timing.
i did the same mistake this summer when i built mine.
there is no gasket that the orange face the cam housing. thats how it is and even at the delaer, a couples years ago, cars came from the factory with the gasket not installed properly and had an oil leak.....
i instaleld a new one and hise the holes and its good now....

only thing is i blew my head gasket last saturday at the track... =(
