BIG PROBLEM!!
Sunday, October 01, 2006 9:59 PM
ok, so my temp gauge isnt working, and its sending the car into crappy mode. I took it to Auto Zone today to have then hook it up to the scanner and it read out 5 codes. 2 of them for Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, 1 for cylinder misfire, 1 for crankshaft position sensor, and 1 for camshaft position sensor. I replaced the ECT sensor today, and had them erase the CEL stuff, then i drove it for a few miles and it all ended up coming back. The car always 'clunks' when shifting into drive and when it shifts gears. I dont know what is going on....any help? o and its a 98 2200

Well for the clunking part, Youre tranny mounts could be wornout, Upper & lower engine mounts, cylinder misfire / for crankshaft position sensor are still engine codes, Thats why the check engine light is comming back on those have to be replaced as well..

the clunking part only happens when the temp gauge isnt working and it throws a CEL. Also i replaced the camshaft and crankshaft sensors like 5-6 months ago.

If your still getting CEL's is you computer telling to its running the engine on a closed loop ..you need to fix or replace whatever code is there and clear the code.. just clearing it doesn't make it go away the next time the car is started and warms up the computer runs a sensor check and the code comes right back on. have you had another code check since???

yes, ive had it check 3 different times, and cleared. I dont know what it could be with the Engine Coolant Temp sensor. i replaced it, check the fuses and relays, also swapped cluster to see if the gauge just went out....but nothin.

Just replace the CTS. It's probably freaking the comptuer out and making it throw the other codes. Also should be keeping it in open loop mode and running crappy.

I had a bad IAT sensor once, and it spit back a total of 13 codes when I went to AZ. Just replace the sensor, erase the codes, and it should be fine.
