Temp gauge got high again

Yeah, you know, it didn't get stoned haha, it just rose up kinda high. I was changing my oil, and like I do every time, I let the car idle on the ramps while I gather up garbage and dust myself off a bit. I got in the car to move it off the ramps and noticed the temp gauge was sitting a bit high, luckily I happened to have my camera in the car:

I took it down the road to burn off some of the oil I spilled on the exhaust pipe, and then I saw the gauge drop:

I drove a bit, turned around then drove back home. I let the car idle again for minute til the gauge rose up to it's normal area:

Can anyone tell me the approximate temperatures in those pictures? I don't like gauge without numbers, but I'm stuck with this one.

It will get hot at idle off course. There's no air going trought the radiator.

How long has it been since you had youre cooling system serviced?. First pic looks a little on the warm side, Ive noticed my 01 cavalier temp climbs a bit in stop and go traffic, Around the same as youre gauge no overheating, (thankgod). Once the fan kicks on it goes back to proper temp. Usually a good cooling system flush helps break down corrosion in the system. The air in the system can cause issues as well. All you can do is make sure youre fan is working, Coolant level and system hoses rad are maintained, Should be ok.

Good Luck.

Hard to say when the cooling system was last serviced. I've only had it since mid-July, and when I bought it the dude told me he had the motor changed a few years ago, so I'd say it's been at least 3 years and possibly more. I've been itching to do a flush, just can't get the money or time together to do it. Plus I've been pondering Dexcool or old fashioned green coolant.

It cost 30$ to do the flush. Do it yourself, don't have a garage do it.
