Need help ID cables.(pics inside kinda big)
Monday, October 02, 2006 1:35 PM
ok.. I took some pics of things doesnt seem to be connected to anything... maybe someone can help me. its a 2.4 by the way. picture is kinda big.. so you can see what I"m talking about.

1st pic is from far away... 2nd zoomed in. 3rd pic not sure where wire plugs in. 4th pic not sure if something so be connected to that.

any information would be really helpful...

Here are some symptoms on my car. AC not working, reverse light not coming on, cold start. The most concern one I have is the AC.
Here is the post of what I have tried to fix the HVAC. http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=11&i=114867&t=114867

The wire looks like it's either the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) or the IAT (Intake Air Temperature). The TPS socket is located on the Throttle body and the IAT is located on the air duct in between the intake manifold and the air cleaner/filter box.

Your last pic seems to depict what could seems to me to be transmission related. Those fittings are consistant with those used in air and fluid hydrolic applications. I'd look around for a hose that maybe blew offf and is flapping around somewhere down there. I'm not familiar with working on the 5 speeds, but I know my automatic wiring harness is in that same general area on my 01 Z. Good luck, and if you weren't the one who disconnected all these to do some cleaning or maintenance, I'd keep an eye on whoever had your hood poped last!

The fitting is the Slave cylinder bleeder. Nothing go there. The wire is not for the TPS since the TPS is 3wires.

I believe that is for the reverse sensor on the tranny. Look at the shifter linkage on the tranny, near there.

I believe that wire goes to the tranny. There should be a plug on the tranny, right below the big 2" (?) coolant hose thats on the right hand side of all your pics, at the edge of your battery ..... if not, can u get the color and/or stripes on the wires? The pictures are too blurry to see the wire colors.

Hope that helps ........

You try feeling under the duct work for a hole? I'd go with air temp sensor. Reverse sensor is internal, and you'd only have a connector hanging. What you have there is a sensor of some kind still plugged in, but out of it's socket. I'll second the slave cylinder bleed deduction.

DartBaron: "What you have there is a sensor of some kind still plugged in, but out of it's socket" I believe you are wrong. That is not a sensor, but a plug for a sensor.

Xerd: If you get a chance, get me the wire colors, and ill make sure exactly where it goes. I have two 2.4L 5Speeds in my garage right now (partially disasembeled - '98&'99)

ez.

this is not the IAT sensor plug cause it's suppose to be with the IDI wires.

its not the IAT or the TPS, IAT has a blue boot and TPS has purple
i'm gonn say check the brake bleeder, and other than that, stretch that baby out and look for empty spots where it would reach

Plug the damn thing into the tranny already!!!
Look at the bleeder for the slave cylinder go 6 inches to your right and up 2 inches, just to the right of the shifter bracket, plug in connector, reverse lights now work.

Thanks guys!!! that fixed my reverse light problem! Oh yea.. the clip part broke off.. thats why it came undone. I just have some ducktape holding it right now... what should I use to make it stay there?

Now thats taken care of... next is my AC problem. Anybody wanna try to troubleshoot this problem???
