01 Z I had some wicked shaking in my front this spring and tires were wearing just fine, at low speeds heard a grinding sound so figured it was the wheel bearings. I put new ones in and was good for a while but now the sound is back and I just noticed my passanger side wheel is wearing on the outside badly (where the sound seems to come from. so question is poor alignment will it make my wheel bearings go out prematurely? I mean this is maybe 8,000 miles ago I put new ones in. Also never had an alignment done EVER (cars never lasted long enough so roughly what does one run?

You have wornout balljoint, Or something to do cv joints, Jack the front of the car up and put them on jack stands, grab each front tire with youre hands 9&2 position, Try moving youre tire up and down, If you got any play youre balljoint are wornout. Usually if youre cv joints are wornout they will make a clicking noise while turning a corner, If the cv boot is torn the bearing in the cv joint could be out of grease, In which cause grinding noise, I would also take a look at youre calipers they could be dragging, Does youre car feel like its beening held back?.
Good Luck.

definately not the CV, I have never truly understood the whole "Play in the tire thing" I have checked and the only give it seems is just the rubber of the tire flexing (I think) if there was play would it be obvious? I check everytime I change oil and all seemed good last week. Doubt its the calipers either, just did the breaks and it was doing this well before I changed rotors and calipers.

The bearings in my '96 finally gave out after 180K+, so I doubt it was your bearings that were bad. If you didn't use a new oil seal, then the new bearings will go bad sooner. Most units do come with a new seal. Other than that, you'll hear a CV joint go bad before it fails (clicking while at extreme angles), and ball joints can be diagnosed when the tire is in the air. One hand on the ball joint, and the other pulling/pushing the bottom of the tire. You WILL be able to feel the play if it is bad. Alignments won't make any part fail or wear out, except for you tires. Alignments are necessary for your tires to achieve their potential life, and to keep your car's on-road behavior stable at all times. They typically run $70-$80 for a full 4 wheel job. Abnormal tire wear, poor vehicle tracking, part replacement, and new tires are just about the only times you need a new alignment. If you can find a reputable, long-standing service center that offers a lifetime option, take it! It will pay for itself after 2 or 3 uses.
