Well, after having my speedometer die, I replaced the VSS. It worked for about a week and now it doesnt. When accelerating from a full stop it hops a little, up to 5-10 mph then drops to 0. Also it sometimes comes back for a second when making a sharp turn (right). When I pulled the old one out there was a minimal amount of shavings, nothing to worry about and the fluid had a good color and smell to it. I also rechecked to see if the plug has become loose and it was OK. So anyone have an idea of what I should check now? 96 Z24 4Spd Auto.
Check the instrument cluster. It could be broken internally.
theres a short some where. if it only happens once and while, theres probably a short. check the plug that plugs into the vss sensor and look for any broken or damaged wires
I checked the wires and I've got constant current so theres no short. I have a theory though so here it is. Its been a while since my las trans fluid change. If the magnet located on the pan is at its max capacity for catching shavings and the filter is full/needs changing. would the extra shavings collect on the magnetic part of the VSS and therefore cause the VSS to malfunction? I have no slippage problem and the trans runs great. So I'm going to change the fluid and filter, pull out the VSS and clean it. And see what happens.
So does this sound like a logical conclusion to my theory or am I way off? Lemmie know what you guys think.
Give it a try. It won't hurt.

Yes, yes it will.
Pull the sensor and check for shavings
