Ok she has had this car for almost a year. now i am usually pretty anal about getting things fixed in a timely manner. she on the other hand is not.
first off it is a 2003 cav. 5 speed. there is a couple of problems with it. i tried searching to no avail.
Problem #1:
Gauges. sometime they work sometime they dont. the dont like to work when it gets a bit on the cold side. Being from western NY we know about cold. but i would say that if it gets to about 50-60 deg over night they will not work on our way home from work (we workd 3rd shift). now on days where it is warmer they will start up after the car has been running for a while and is nice and warm. and this is for the tach, spedo, temp, but not the gas. that is a whole different pita. being that the gas tank has been filled countless times with the gauges not working it is all out of wack. it will say there is a full tank with 450 mi on it. other times the gas gauge will be touching or almost touching the temp gage (when that is working right)
probelm #2:
After filling the gas tank from empty (or so we think, refer to last paragraph) the car has issues with wanting to start, and stay running. you have to start it and give it gas. and then keep goosing the gas untill you are going down the road. one time it even cut out on us as we were leaving the gas station and died as we were pulling into trafic (not so much fun)
anyway. any help would be apriciated. also anything else you may feel to have me on the look out for with this car (already did the recall thing with the brake lights).
Does anyone else have the problem of having snow come in under the windshield where it meets the dash by the way?
thanks alot
Dan
I've never heard of anything coming in the windshield unless it's been replaced and they did a really terrible job sealing it.
The dieing problem could be a few different things. IAC or Fuel Pump come to mind first.
The Guage problems sound like a loose wire/connector. Maybe on the back side of the cluster.
I'm sure someone will have some better ideas, but those should get you started anyway.
Thats where I would start off with too,
Did you buy this car new or used?
I have an 03 fire half way to 70K and I've never heard of any of these problems on 03+ models.
check all the connections, grounding on the batter(could solve all of this possibly)

yes it was bought used. mileage is at 67000 curently. and we drive it 38 miles one way to work everyday.
I had the exact same problem couple of weeks ago..It turned out to be the Purge valve on the evap system. Since its been fixed starts perfect everytime i put gas in. I would go get that check because like you said its not so fun when everyone is looking at you in the gas station because your reving ur car to keep it from stalling.
where is that located? i am not that fimilar with the car.
thanks
I wouldn't think it would be the fuel pump at that mileage, but you could do a fuel pressure test to find out for sure.
It probably wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter if it hasn't been done, just as a maintenance thing.
alright, i will check that out
check the IP Fuse, if its loose or some wire leading to it is loose, after key off, and start up the car will not start, has a small connection with the passlock II, that could be the cause for no start up and guages acting up

Dan

I'd check the dash grounds under the dash for the instr problem. The fuel guage problem, you might look at the rear where the wiring comes off the tank. There's a ground there too, you might also scan the computer just to see if it has any codes. The starting problem sounds like the purge valve, or maybe fuel pump relay.
