From South Africa with Sunbird GT Turbo....HELP!!
Monday, September 25, 2006 8:55 AM
I live in South Africa and thought I would be the ONLY proud owner of a Pontiac Sunbird 2.0 GT Turbo 1989 model......... Well that's the problem...I am and nobody can help me!

However, I have now owned the car since 1996 and have seen 1 year of driving joy in it until it broke!!

I have had to get my head around how this car works as nobody else can seem to fix it and everytime a mechanic sticks his head under the hood something else seems to break or go wrong.....

Here's my current problem.......

I need to get my paws on a wiring diagram as well as a vacuum diagram to ensure that the car has been set up correctly.

Secondly, I need technical info on an additional cable which comes from the automatic box to the throttle body and how it fits there!

Please.... I'm in urgent need of help!

All 2.0L Turbo motors are the SOHC Ryan. Just so you know.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

That's the transmission kick-down cable, should just clip to the throttle body.

I'll grab some pics out of my repair manual when I get home from work.

Hmmmm. Get a hold of Protonus. he'll tell you everything about that car. LOL. About all I remember is that it was a SOHC turbo motor that was weaker than @!#$ from the factory.

Thanks alot for all the assistance thus far!!

Darkstars......
I was right about having connected the vacuum piping incorrectly! My bad... I intend resolving it when I get a chance!

Not sure whether you got my email and skype details?

Let me know when you get a chance!

Details for the car are is as follows:

Vehicle Make: Pontiac Sunbird
Model: 2.0 GT Turbo
Year: 1988/89
VIN: 1G2JU11M6K7528530

As for the wiring diagram…….

I need to trace the ignition to the e.c.u, to the fuel pump and then all the sensors under the hood!!

I know I'm asking for alot but this would really be great if I could finally sort this car out!

Kardian.....
I really would appreciate some imagery so that I can sort this out!! The kickdown cable is not connected at the moment and I can't seem to work out where it connects to!

Hypsy.....
I've mailed Protonus already but there has been no response!

Thanks once again for all the assistance!

I hope you are only using unleaded gasoline in that car. If not, your oxygen sensor will croak. Last time I was in South Africa there was only leaded gas available.

Ok... I'm having difficulty finding that specific repair manual. Its been a while since I've owned a second gen. Its not where I last left it in my bookcase....

On the throttle arm (where the throttle cable hooks up to the throttle body) there should be a peg. The cable end link slides and clips onto that peg.

<still looking for the repair manual>

Meerkat...........

South Africa has moved forward to using unleaded petrol! - Thanks for the concern, I honestly wouldn't have known better!

Kardian...........

I understand the linking up part at the top........ my concern however is the cable connection on a bracket near the base of
the cylinder head or something! I have a feeling that the last mechanic who worked on the car may have removed the bracket
and just never bother to put it back!!

I'm going to take pics of things I don't recognise and maybe you can identify them for me!

Thanks for all the time and effort!

Regards,
Rory
