Problem with my CHECK OIL light????
Thursday, September 21, 2006 1:17 AM
I am having an issue regarding my CHECK OIL light on the instrument panel of my 96 Z24. When I first start the engine the CHECK OIL light remains on but if I turn it off and restart it goes out. I’ve checked the oild and it looks clean and the level is fine. However when I restart it the car idles at greater revs for a minute or two.

Is there a problem with the sensor or is it something more serious??

Any advice please

Yep.
Oil pressure sending unit going bad or the pump not giving the pressure needed for runing conditions.

I have the exact same issue with my car. I took it in and was told that the Oil LEVEL sensor is getting stuck when sitting for a little bit. If I start the engine, turn it off, then start it back up, the Check Oil light goes out. I was told that light isn't a big deal as long as I manually check the oil level to make sure I'm good. its when the Oil PRESSURE light comes it that I have a real problem. That has never happened.

Same problem here on a 2.3 (same sensor) with the sensor getting stuck.

the Oil Sending units are a bitch to get to. Well depending on the year make and model. I got a '97 2.2l and the OSU is on the back side of my engine near the firewall total ass monkey to change, but its worth it.

^That's low oil, or taking that turn way hard. If you don't have low oil then you've hit the exact reason dry sump was invented.
