Weird HVAC problem...possessed?
Monday, September 11, 2006 9:19 PM
K,
its happened four times now. Once last time at the track, once last week, and twice this week. I turn the car on, or have it running, then all of a sudden the hvac turns off. No matter where i put the controls, nothing happens. THen it turns back on by itself. THe last time this happened (2mins ago), it took almost 2 minutes for it to turn on again.

possessed? anybody have a similiar problem/fix??

Nate

Does the comrpessor also shut off or just the blower fan?

sometimes you can slightly bin the rods and it will not allow you to change anything on the HVAC controls. usually happens when you try to go from you dash vents to your floor or defrost vents.

I have a similar problem. Mine did that... but now when its in the "off" position, the light stays on green. when this happens, I cant use my AC no matter what speed. Sometimes it stays on for 5min,15min, etc. Its random. The light flickers on and off sometimes also. When the light is off when the switch is on the "off" position, then I can turn it on and my AC will work. Sometimes it will work for a long time, sometimes for only couple seconds. I don't know if its a loose wire? Fuse? or what.

I know it still works. but only at certain times. I'm guessing the compressor is the one that makes a noise when you turn it on and off. Sounds like you release air or something. I hope someone can help me out, b/c I live in FL and its HOT all the time, if not its raining.

please help me if anyone experienced this or know what this could be. I really dont want to bring in my car to get it fixed.. I just spent too much on my clutch, brakes, 90k maintenance, and tires.

Oh, and my car(2.4) still has the rough idling when I start my car... still no one can figure this out.

Ok... My AC is still acting up. I think its a loose wire or electrical thing. When I"m driving, it will go on and off. When I accelerate it fast, most of the time it will go off. When I hit a bump or somethign, it will turn back on. Even speed bumps in the mall areas will make it go on and off. I'm guessing its a loose wire or something.. b/c I had it on for 10-30min b4 with a problem.. only when I car shakes from hitting bumps will make it go on and off... Where should I check for loose wires?

Can anyone help me on this one?

thanks

The you guys are describibg sounds like it could be wire chaffing, or self grounding. Pull out your HVAC and visually inspect the entire wiring. If problem persist you want to consider getting a new HVAC controller ebay has them cheap.

Mine does that as well and when that happens, both the blower fan and engine cooling fan shut off. A quick tap of the gas pedal and it clicks back on.

I attribute that to the poly engine mounts knocking a connector loose....

then that sounds like it is self grounding like i said you may want to consider purchasing, or if your not into spending money accquiring and HVAC controller. Either way it goes they are cheap and an easy thing to replace.

ok... I just purchased a hvac controller... still same thing... The light is "on" even though its on the "off" position. I found a wire in the engine that is not connected to anything... and there's one thing that is sticking out,its silver, not connected to anything either... Its right under the stock air filter tube is. I looked and looked and cant find anywhere those connect... maybe a piece fell off that connects those 2? I'll try to get some pictures and maybe someone can help me out where those connect and see if they have to do anything with the AC. If anyone has fix this kind of problem.. please let me know.... Florida is way too hot without AC

ok.. I took some pics of things doesnt seem to be connected to anything... maybe someone can help and see if this is AC related... its a 2.4 by the way. picture is kinda big.. so you can see what I"m talking about.

first pic is from far away... 2nd zoomed in. 3rd pic not sure where wire plugs in. 4th pic not sure if something so be connected to that.

any information would be really helpful... maybe something to do with AC?
