Got my Sunfire a couple of weeks ago and I'm starting to have problems with something I didn't notice during the test drive. There's a soft rattling/squeaking sound coming from the front area whenever I go over a bump or a sharp incline, and I figure it's the suspension. The dealer told me to squirt silicone (??!) in a few places, but his advice was kind of vague.
The car rides smooth, it's just the sound is pretty annoying. I obviously don't want to take it to a mechanic if I can fix it myself. Any suggestions?
If it's a 2000+ it's prob the strut mounts.......mine are very annoying and plan to swap to the 95-99 when I lower my car in the spring. I could be wrong but that sounds like the same prob I have. You can sometimes use white lithium grease at the top of the struts but mine are so bad now that it doesn't help.

Could be the coil spring rubbing on the strut plate, Or youre front end may need a little grease job on the ball joints and tie rod ends. Cant remember if sunfires or Cavaliers have coil islolaters, A shot of silicon spray will work for temp time. My buddy had a problem on his 89 sunbird, In which he had some thin rubber mat laying around, he cut out some circles and removed the front struts & coil springs place them bottom and upper part of the coil springs, Then no more sqeaks.
Good Luck
It's a bad mount, happens all the time.
whats the diff between 95-99 mounts and the 2000+ mounts? i have the same prob. i would like to fix it before i lower in the spring.
Thanks, guys. I'm going to try out one of those temp fixes in a few days and see how it goes.
