Power Steering Problem

Hi!

Just got my first Cav. Very nice car, much better than I expected. I can see why you guys like em so much.

This car is for my kid to drive, so I'm slowly working my way through a list of repairs.

Top of the list is to replace the ps pump. It seems to be squeeling. Not positive, but seems to be coming from the pump.

FSM on order, but in the mean time I thought I'd ask and see if any of you know any tips on changing it.

From what I've read it seems I will need to change the reservoir over, and the pulley.

Are there any tricks that might make this job easier for me?

I'm concerned about:

Serpentine belt r&r. I've done before on my GM V8s, is this a lot harder on a 2.2? Seems some have had trouble with it.

What tool do I need for pulling pulley? I've got assorted pullers, but everyone says its ez to break pulley. Can I rent this at AZ? A pic or a link to this tool would be very helpful.

Anything tricky about bleeding the system?

Thanks, sorry for the dumb noob questions.

I would first check the fluid level in the pump, if you have not already done so, low fluid level causes noises
I am not sure but I believe the pump, if you have to change it, comes as an assembly with pulley and resevoir on. Someone here will correct me, I HOPE, If I am wrong.

Here are a couple of links to a Serpentine Belt Change, remember the tensioner is released by turning CLOCKWISE.
It's really easy once you know how, I can do mine in minutes!

Maybe GM OEM replacements come with pulleys, but I haven't found an aftermarket one that does. Some come with the reservoir, but for $16 bucks more.

Thanks for the links!

So nobody knows how to get the pulley off, eh?
Didn't think this was rocket science.

Well, this is only a guess--that it is pressed on and you need a tool like these and the ability to press it back on!

Thanks!
Got my FSM today, so should be in good shape now.
I think I can get a puller like the second one at AZ.
They didn't seem to know for sure if it would work or not.
Auto Zone - hate it and love it at the same time.
