Well i have a 99 sunfire 2.2. i knew the gas level sender was going so i replaced it..now i have anew issue. The gas level is going down way quicker then it acually shoul be. I usually get about 400 -450km per tank. Now this sender is tellin me im at half tank with about 150 km..it was down a 1/4 tank with 50 km on it..so something isnt right
i checked ther eisnt any leaks or gas smells, any ideas at what it could be???/ phil

Sounds like your new sender is either defective or isn't the right one for your car. When it says you are at a half tank and you fill it up, does it actually take a half tank's worth or does it take something more in line with your normal gas mileage?

I would check the earth connection at the fuel sender, make sure you have a good earth there.

Here is a link to explain.

http://www.autometer.com/tech_faq_answer.aspx?sid=1&qid=35

The sender resistance should be Zero ohms EMPTY and 90 ohms FULL.

To check the Fuel Gauge

Pull off the Fuel Gauge connector at the fuel sender- with ignition ON gauge should read "FULL"

Ground the removed Fuel Gauge connector- with ignition ON gauge should read "EMPTY"

Hope this helps
