BAD ACCELERATION
Thursday, September 14, 2006 10:23 AM
I have realy bad acceleration on my 96z24 and dont know why. It laggs behind when i press on the peddle. It take 3-5 sec for the acceleration to kick in and when it does it revs like a hooo...It also wants to stall when idle...The car has 145 000km in it and I am doing about 500km per tank..
Anyone has this problem? Any ideas??

Replaced fuel lines, fuel filter just replaced, new fuel tank, and new oil.

Just did. Got a new cone filter and the plugs are just a few months old.

Why would the Cone Air Filter have such and impact on the accelaration??? Just asking because it could be.

check for vacuum leaks...there is a sensor right on the front of your intake manifold, and the hose makes a loop to a nipple on the manifold, it might be cracked because thats exactly what mine did when that happend

I agree, MAP sensor (pressure sensor or multiple air press. sensor not sure whatīs itīs name) ,the nipple is right under thr throtle body, mine used to self disconect and the car a 96 Z, used to tremble... a small tie strap solved the problem.

It also sounds like a TPS (throttle position sensor) as well as the above.

I also checked for any vacuum leaks and found no signs of any. My TB flap is very dirty. The flap edges are black. Could this be the problem???

If so then what are the proper cleaning steps?

I also noticed that when it shifts into gear there is a hang and a howl. Once it shifts it cool and shifts in high revs. (i have a auto)

for cleaning the throttle body, crc throttle body cleaner id the way to go. just have lost of paper towels at your disposal. you may also, while you're there, remove and clean the iac valve as it usually gets just as dirty as the butterfly.

about your trans, i have no idea... i'm not one to be caught working on an auto... the technology is lost on me...
