Hi all,
The headlights and the daytime running lamps do not work. All other lights work. Per previous suggestions I have checked the DRL (replaced it actually), checked for power at both headlamps (both have power), and checked the fuses. All seem good. When the car is started the DRL indicator lamp blinks several times and you can hear the silver breaker in the panel kick on and off a few times. The light goes out and the breaker stops clicking. Car runs great otherwise. I did pull the breaker and install another fuse to test. The lights came on except one was dim (the left I think). I was able to switch between hi and lo beams when I did this as well. After a few times I turned the key switch to off then back to ACC and they would not come on. I cleaned the ground connection at the battery tray and on the frame under the tray as well. It has been suggested that it could be the column switch but I cannot get the plastic trim off the wheel unless I pull it. I have never pulled one with an airbag. Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to figure it out without going to the dealer. Thx!
Did you check the light iself? Usually when the DRL flash it's because you have a burned light.

I forgot to mention that I pulled the bulbs and looked at them as well. They looked ok. Is it possible that they look ok but can still be bad? Would one bad bulb make the others not work? The filaments look like they are unbroken. Also - I noticed that a side marker light bulb is out on the driver’s side. Would this cause a problem for the headlamps?
Not trying to threadcrap, but I am having the exact same problem. Same car ('00 Fire).
I had this issue before, and it turned out the headlight bulbs I was using (Streeglow) had burned up the harness on the driver's side. Passenger side was fine though, which I thought was odd. Anyway, so we changed out the stock harness on both headlights with ones that were made for higher temperature bulbs and all was fine for a while.
That was three months ago, and now I'm back to the same problem. My driver's side DRL doesn't work, and when I put the low beams on it shines very dimly. Passenger headlight works fine, as do all the other lights on the car.
I haven't checked fuses or the actual headlight bulb yet....I'm hoping that it's just a bad bulb?
I finally had to take it to the dealer. It turns out that a battery I had about nine months ago that I replaced because it was leaking leaked acid onto the connector block underneath the tray. They had to cut it out and splice the connections. It also fried the combo switch. I had it replaced as well and now everything is working great.
where does the harness un plug? ( Drivers side harness, for starters, then passengers side? ) It would be easier to take inside, and fix it , then bring it out and plug back in.
Thanks.

Update: Unplugged harness, eliminated plug due to rot from battery acid, and all is good.
