Just as the title states, i dont have any backup lights, bulbs are good, they worked fine for a while, i pulled the center console and there were not wires under the console, i looked up around the shifter linkage and saw nothing there too. I wiggled wires and nothing. i figured that its a lose connection somewhere but i have no idea where. any ideas or anyone know where i should start looking?
The backup switch is on the transmission, right below where the linkage is located, if I'm not mistaken. You didn't mention the fuse, but of course you want to check that first if you haven't already.

yea the switch is in the driver side of the transmission (so the right if u are lookng at it from the front of the car), i had mine replaced right b4 my warrant ran out, so i cant help ya on replacing it, but that is where it is
ill keep looking, but cant see much down there or cant feel much of a harness down there but ill keep on looking.
Auto or manual? On my 96 2.4L w/5 spd, the back up switch is on the top of the trans. Remove the air intake duct and will see it below. can be tested as it has one contact out, should connect to ground when car in revrese, and open other wise. Got part at aOriellys for aout 10 bucks, used an Oxygen sensor socket to get out. Was pretty tight.

Hope this helps
Mine is an 04 Eco so i dont know if its the same or not, so far no change, i have messed witht he wire harness but until i take the time to get down and under the car then i dont know if i can just wiggle them and get them to work. thought about just installing my own seperate wires and all that just cuz i dont feel like messin with it. ill keep looking tho, thanks.
There is a thread on this already. They say its common for our cars, something to do with the
fluid messing with the senor or something. Anyway, I have an 03 and I just replaced mine
the part cost $40 at a dealer. It was easy, I took the tire off and there it was.
yea it is fairly simple. the part cost 30 bucks from gm. you take your driver side wheel off. get a 19 mill socket and remove it. simple 15 minutes without mechanical experience. make sure u be careful unplugging it too dont rip to hard or there go the wires! its called your reverse switch.
I had to replace mine as well. $18 at Auto Zone/Advance, about 15 min to replace. Take the drivers front tire off, pop about 4-5 of the little black inner fender retainers off and pull back on the inner fenderwell. It's right in front of you then. Use a socket to install the new one as it's a soft housing on the sensor and will crack the insides if you tighten it too tight.

Is this the location for a standard or auto? Or the same for both....? Coworkers having a problem with her 2003 5spd.

Definitely for the 5 speed.
So that you all know, you need a 19 MM deep socket. You will have to remove the tire as I do not see how on earth you'd be able to remove the sensor with that much room. It takes about 10-20 minutes to do.
I had trouble with my brake lines and strut bar in the way. Eventually I was able to just get it in just enough to unloosen the sensor. I unloosened the rest by hand and did the reverse installing.
Same problem on the G/F's '95 Grand Prix Coupe. Definitely a common issue, it seems.
