Well I decided that it was finally time to change the drain plug on the cav since the bolt was slightly rounded and it was the original plug with 90k+ on it. So I went to my friendly autozone and bought a new plug. I drove for about two weeks and then one day I had a huge puddle under my car. Sure enough it was oil. When the cars running it wont leak cuz of the oil pump but once its stopped it makes a huge mess. I then just yesturday bought a new plug from gm and installed this dorve around for a few hours and parked it and once again oil leaking, not as much but it never leaked before. So I got under it and it looks as if the oil plug touches the top of the oil pan and there is a gap at the bottom which is causeing the leak. I tried to see if I could just double up one the rubber washers but that wont work because by the time its tight its smashed the hell out of the second washer and it wont provide and good seal. Ive checked the threads and they look fine on both the plugs and the pan. Also I threw the old plug away, damn Im a tard. Am I sol and need to buy a new pan?

Sure its coming from the plug and not the filter? Also, the GM plug has a built in Gasket, and in all of my experience (used to work at an oil change place), never seen one of those that leaked.
yea i can actually watch the oil drip from the plug and i cheked the filter area and its dry. Yes both of the plug s i used had build in gaskets and they both leak. Gm has changed the part number on their drain plugs and they dont make the old ones that came with my car its got a slightly larger head in diameter and no one make the exact size that i used to have, so im stumped.

If the washer/gasket will come off, see if you can replace it with a thicker one. A good local hardware store should carry something that will work. Be sure to buy something made out of brass or copper so that it is compressible.
yea that was what i was thinking that maybe ill just get a brass washer and put it on the then put the rubber one on. thx hopefully itll stop the prob and i wont have to get anew pan.

Ah just put duck tape on it like I did.. LOL JK I changed mine and never had a problem and I also got it from Autozone.
never thought of duck tape, shoulda known its the ultimate fix to everything

get some teflon paste with teflon( yes there is paste with out teflon and it dont work good). that can be had at a hard ware store in/ near the brass fitting aisle.
anyways, i put some on the threads on my oil plug on my 94 toreass. i got a autozone plug, but never put it on as i didnt like the way the gasket/washer was.
so i just clean the threads off each time i change the oil, and dab a little of that teflon paste with teflon on the threads. no leaks.
i also use that stuff on my fuel guage tapped into my fuel rail, and when i had a oil pressure guage, and my water injection set up/fittings. . that stuff works great
also on a cam tower bolt too i used it (long story).
k thx ill hook it up i know about that paste used it on my air bag setup on my s-10 nvr thought to use it on drain plug though. thx

Ok what u can use is permatex (high temperature) thread sealant! This is sold at NAPA for sure, unless u can go to advance or auto zone and buy something similar in a small tube that is the same and is 100% safe for all sensors and drain plugs of ALL kinds and is about 3-4 bux .This is (like anti seeze but similar to silicone) and just put enuff on so when u screw in the plug it covers the threads when installing.Hope this is useful.Btw it will come in a white tube and the above stores may label it differently but it is the same thing.
i used an Autozone plug on my last change, looks just like the old original one, the one from the dealer is probably from a Saturn, which has the same thread size, but bigger base. That one wont work. The trucks even use the same plug, M12x1.75 i think it is or something of that sort. It should look like this.
GM Drain Plug
