I've got a 98 Auto Cavalier that shakes while in Drive, especially at 45 mph.
It also shifts hard, a noticable jump when I shift out of park into reverse to drive and back.
I've taken it to plenty of places, 1 tire kingdom told me it was a tire which was replaced but still shakes. The other TK told me it's my motor mounts but Midas can't seem to find anything wrong.
Please Help.
Is it idling high? My 98 auto runs at 600 rpm. Also, I remember the IAT sensor causing jerky shifts when unplugged.
2002 Cavalier 2200 5spd
Could also be a tranny or motor mount.
I also own a 1998 Chevrolet Cavlier 2.2 The clunk and jerk you are expierienceing could be you motor mounts, transmission strut, CV joints, and floppy transaxles all together. Try replacing the Transmission strut and two motor mounts. The motor mount with the jam nut is a b**** to replace bacause it's cheap white metal and most likely corroded to the point where you can't get it out with just drilling, beating and torches. Cut the rubber bushing around the jam nut first. This will save 2.5 hours of time wasted. I replaced my mounts and strut, much more torque on pavement, picks up alot quicker. Definitely worth the money.
