got it runnin after all the hullabaloo with the ECM and pass-lock, and it stayed runnin, then i backed it into a visitor parkin spot and went to put it into drive to straighten it out and every time i put it in drive it dies. What could cause it to do THIS?
If automatic try disconnecting plug at front of transmission. This is your transmission lockup cable. The lockup solenoid might be defective. The lockup bypasses the torque convertor when you are at speed.
disconnect it and try starting it you mean?
Should have added that you can drive with it disconnected. The only thing is your gas mileage will go down because there will not be any lockup and the torque converter will have some slippage. My nephew drives his car with it disconnected. He'll fix it some day he says.
I'm not saying that is your problem - just something to look at. The usual symptoms of this problem is the car cutting off when coming to a stop. It's much like not depressing the clutch on a manual transmission when coming to a stop.
If it's not one thing, it's another. Stupid cage.
Could it possibly be the neutral safety switch? If so what's it look like and where's it located on an 01 2.2 auto?
Okay well no offense but it sounds if you are tossing parts at it.
A neutral saftey switch simply is a safety device, only allowed the car to be started in P or D.
As far as dying when in drive, well the engine goes under load when in drive. First thing I'd be looking at is your IAC valve, sticking, clogged?
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
and the IAC valve would be what?
ok got her hooked up to the battery charger again n we'll see what happens
This sounds like the same thing i was getting with my 89z24. The problem turned out to be the torque converter. Might not be in your case but definitly somethign to check. If you unplug the cable that goes to the transmission and probelm solved then i would say torque converter. If problem still persists its not tranny realted.
ok question, why when i have the key in the "on" position to re-learn the passcode, do the headlights stay on? they are switched off from the control, also the radio will not turn on
Ok now i'm noticing that when i start it and it starts and does its usual dies after a few seconds if that, and i leave the key in the on position to relearn the pass-code the headlights stay on, i don't think they ever did this before? What's goin on?
OK, guy from work came over with an OBD II cable and his laptop with diagnostic software. Found what could be a major issue. When hooked up found several CID faults, which translated is computer identification. Also the VIN# from the ECM does not match the VIN # on my car. So either the stealership didn't reflash it or reflashed it with the wrong VIN #
Ok somethin new i noticed. I was messin with it again and even when its in park, i have the key in the "on" position and the drl's stay on? What's goin on here?
