Car won't Start, IGN problem, Keeps blowing Fuse
Monday, September 04, 2006 10:26 AM
Well I was driving back to the party on saturday night and it straight up just died!

It is the 50amp ign fuse that keeps on blowing everytime I try to start it up. Stereo, and cluster won't turn on at all.

Any ideas what could be causing this, does anyone know of grounds that I should check, I am not to fimiliar with my ecotec, considering I just put it in last winter.

thanks for any help

Has their been any reason work done with electrical?. Could have corrioded battery terminals, Cut in one of the terminals as well, Also you igintion switch could be acting up as well. I would take a good look at the wiring around the starter as well. Their is a short in one of the those wires some where.

Good Luck.

Below is a link to the ignition switch recall,i.e. melted interior components of the switch.

If you are blowing a 50 amp fuse!! there is a SHORT circuit somewhere in the ignition/associated circuits.

I would disconnect the wire (could be purple in color) that goes to the Starter Solenoid and then try to start. This will eliminate the starter and solenoid and confirm it is :-

1. In the starter/solenoid circuit or

2. In another circuit powered by the ignition switch (If the fuse blows again)
