I've talked to a few people about this, but no one's really given me a clear answer. Obviously, my blower motor only works from time to time. I'll explain as clearly as I can... For example, when starting my car ('99 manual Chevy Cav), no air will come out of the vents no matter what setting I turn it to or what setting it was on when I turned off the car. I'll drive for a few minutes and eventually it'll kick on. I usually leave it on the highest setting so I'll know when it's on. Anyways, it'll blow at the rate it's supposed to for 30 seconds to a minute, and then it'll fade out to nothing again. This repeats itself pretty much the whole time I'm driving, but it's not in constant intervals. Occasionally it'll kick on and it'll blow at half of what it's supposed to at the highest setting and that'll last for a few seconds and then it'll go off again.
I've heard that it could be the blower motor itself, the engine temperature sensor, the wiring, etc., and I'm just looking for some more opinions. I don't know if any of you have experienced this problem before. I'm looking to avoid taking it into the shop. I've been told by the guy who usually works on our cars to hit the underside of the glove compartment when it goes off to see if it can more or less jump start the motor, but obviously I can't do that while I'm driving. I'm going to have someone ride with me tonight and hit the blower motor and see what happens.
If, in fact, it IS the blower motor, how hard is it to fix yourself?
Have you replaced the resistor? See sticky at the top of the forum.

ahhh, i have been having this same problem for the last couple years, i'm finally getting tired of the hot summers and i need to fix this. i have the same problem, but it doesnt turn on unless i yank on the wires leading to the motor. i had to replace the resistor 6 months before I started having this problem so i know its not that. its like a lose connection from the wire to the motor, but i replaced the plugs and its still giving me the same thing.
any help would be great!

I rember reading about this i think it cause by a loose ground wire. maybe try a search or wait for someone that knows about it to chime in
I did post on this subject a while back, quite a way back.
I've searched and can not find the thread, but it did fix the problem.
If you have the same problem:-
On my '93 2.2 the blower motor ground (G100) is on the front of the engine , on the trans-axle stud.
Looking at the engine from the front of the car it is on the trans-axle housing to the right of the starter.
There are a few Ground cables/wires there secured by a nut with a star lock-washer.
Try tightening the nut, some seem to have worked loose/not been correctly tightened, giving an intermittent ground connection to the blower motor (and possibly other circuits).
On later Cav's the ground point has a different number, but it is still in the same location.
Hope it helps

Ill have to check out my grounds. My blower wont work at all now. It wasnt really working before but now it seems as if its dead.
ok, my problem was the electrical parts in the actual blower motor. so i got a new one from autozone....but now i have a new problem; the a/c condenser wont kick on. i wonder if the new blower motor wont support a/c.
