I've a problem somwhere with the electrical system in my SFire. I think this is the right forum to post in. If not I'm sorry. Feel free to move it. I noticed it yesterday when I went to vacuum my car. Plugged the adaptor into the lighter outlet and it didnt work. I've no idea howlong the outlet hasn't worked for. I've never used it up till now. Well, I checked the fusebox and come to realize that the fuse was blown. No biggie. I pull the fuse and go to replace it with a new 15. As soon as the fuse touched the terminal, it blew out. OK. I try again with another 15. Again it blows out. Hmm, so I try a 20. Blowsout. 25. Blows and even tried a 30. That blew on contact aswell. I figured I have an electrical problem somwhere in the car but no idea where to start. The only non-stock component in the car atm is the cd player. It was in the car when I got it. I'll most likely start there. See if they screwed something up installing it. Anyone have any ideas on what my problem could be or where else i should look? I'm worried this may cause problems down the line. Thank you everyone who reads this. Any help would be a great help.

Blowing fuses means it a short circuit.
First thing and I know this sounds dumb, make sure there is no pennies in the cigerattes lighter, people have brang their car to the dealer for this before and we find a penny in there.
Secondly if there isnt a penny, it is just a short someplace, good luck finding it, and you need at the brae minimum a 12V test light.
You need to see where you have 12V, and where you dont, you should have 12V up to the lighter. Ig no 12V at the lighter go from there.

ya any metal shavings.. any metal at all in cig lighter socket

Well, he won't have 12V anywhere from the fuse block to the lighter because the fuse is blown. My advice would be to get a volt-ohmmeter and using the resistance or ohmmeter function, start looking for the short. It would be very helpful if you can get an electrical schematic of your car (available in either factroy manuals or aftermarket books such as Haynes). Also, it is a really bad idea to put in larger amperage fuses to see if they blow. If it is blowing a 15 amp fuse, something is wrong and a larger fuse won't help. Fuses are rated to protect the circuit wiring from damage. Putting a 30 amp fuse in a 15 amp circuit has the potential of burning up your wiring.
Well, no pennies or metal shavings in the socket. Looks like it was never used. Upon further inspection I come to find out why. I guess the guy who owned the car befor me decided to change the socket at one time. The clip was cut and it looks like he used cheap speaker wire (14g) to extend the wires. Not soldered together, twisted together. No electrical tape or crimps. Looks like he melted part of possibly a grocerybag around the wires to keep them from touching [not like I haven't done the plastic bag trick before when outta elec tape. lol]Ontoppa this, he wired the +to the- and the - to the +. Well guys. I think I mayhave found the problem. lol

ohh btw heres a good story =] , when I went to autozone to get more fuses and other misc schtuff, I figured while I'm there, I'll have them run a scan so I could get the codes for my CEL. The kid [maybe 20,looked younger] told me "sure thing. Lemme grab the scanner and Ill meet you outside.BTW, thats gonna be $50" uhh you gotta be 5hittin me right? I was here alil over aweek ago and wasn't charged for this. He says "well, were extremly busy at the moment and im taking my time away from the customers to come outside, hook this up for you and get you the codes" uhhh, sooo your trying to scam $50 outta me is what your saying? "no, no, no, its nothing like that at all" uhh ok, can I talk to your supervisor for a sec then? " umm well, hes on his lunchbreak atm and wont be back for about an hour" *nodding my head* ahhh, ok, i see.
