Rear Drums

Hey just wondering about the rear drums. I changed mine no problem... doing a friends and cant ge the drums off... rusted on solid. Tried a few things but nothing working. Any ideas??

Slide hammer should do the trick. Also try using brake cleaner to loosen up the rust before doing that.

If its rusted at the hub, squirt liberally with Liquid Wrench, Nut Buster, PB Blaster or whatever rust solvent you prefer. Then wait a while and hit it again. Try tapping on the drum with a rubber mallet to break it loose.

Many times with drum brakes, the problem is that a groove has been worn in the drum by the brake lining. You can't get the drum off because the drum is catching on the shoes. If this is your problem, try backing off on the brake adjuster which will pull the shoes inward and allow the drum to come off.

not discrediting your intelligence.. (i JUST did my rears) make sure the e-brake is off and take the cap off of the brake fluid res. under the hood.

Well Ive doen a few too many brake jobs, Easy way I figured is to get a foot long piece of 2x4 wood, Just place the 2x4 wood on each side of the drum as a barrier, While striking the drum with a hammer a few times with allow each drum to come off with no problems.

Thanks everyone. With a bit of elbow grease i got it off.... had to spray it down and let set over night thought. But its off now. Good thing too drums were getting down there.
