so, the wife drove through a puddle.... well a pond kinda. And water sucked into the intake and straight into the engine. We let it sit overnight and I went and took the flex tube off right near the intake manifold and water just poored out. And the engine is leaking oil and water out of it, it is an 03 ls sport 4 door, do you think there will be enough damage that they will total it out?
What do you think they will have to do? Will they just flush the engine out or something? It was leaking oil and water from somwhere this morning.
Engines toast.
3K + to fix.
But they won't total the car.
They won't total it. It's only the engine.

just give the engine an oil change and fire it up if it runs great, if it blows then
you arnt any worse off !!
but if it really did go through a pond then fight with the insurance company
about it !
Iv seen cars written off for flood damage even though nothins wrong with the car !!
Well it's at the dealership now. The truth is I kinda hope they will total it, that way me and the wife can get two cars.
Well they totalled it, good call MFK-223, tom, and sac... hehe jus playin. No but it really kinda sucks now. I don't have gap insurance so I am left with probably about 2-4 grand left on the loan not payed for. Then I have to figure out some way to get a new car.
Do you guys know if they will give the 7 grand or whatever they are givin us for totaling it out to us or to the lender of my loan? If they don't give it to me, then I will have no money for a down payment on a car, and then the extra 4 grand I will owe on the loan, so it will be like going to a dealership and offering them -4000 bucks down payment and trying to get them to give me a car. Maybe I should just put the wife on the corner since it is her fault. LOL
buy it back and fix it man its just the engine
In the state of illinois I can't buy it back unless it is over 7 years old.... I was gonnna. I can get an ecotec for like 300 bucks
WOW what a goddamn stupid ass law that is JUST for the insurance companys sorry man
question.... WTF WAS SHE THINKING DRIVING THROUGH A DEEP PUDDLE LIKE THAT???????
well....to explain what really happened, we were BOTH in the car, and he was just joking, hes not mad at all....hes the one who let me try to go through it as it was really his car anyhow....
anyways, it was about 10:30 at night, and it had been raining really fast, all day/night long, and it was pouring at the time as well.....where we were at isnt usually an area that gets bad when it rains, so we thought that at the most, it was a pretty shallow puddle, especially since other cars were going through it ok. plus, i was going like 30, and by the time we saw the puddle, if i wouldve stopped to try and turn around, i wouldve had to slam on my brakes, which means i prolly woulda got rearended and there were people on my ass, and i wouldve ended up stopping in the puddle, which presented a chance of stopping and completely submerging the exhaust, which is bad....obviously if we didnt think we could go through it , we wouldnt have tried....after about 6 ft, the car stalled, and we had to push it into the parking lot.....the water was deeper than @!#$, i was soooooo surprised....it was at least a foot and a half of water. anyhow they totaled it and we went car shopping today!!

That really sucks.
If it were me, a used engine would be in it already and back on the road.
But stupid insurance companies. ahhh.
I was at work at Sullivans today, and I wondered why your car was there...now I know. Any chance you wanna sell anything from the interior, or the rear bumper, maybe even the wheels?
Usually insurance companies won't total it. They will just replace the motor with a used one with equal or less miles.

WOW, you live in champaign too?? thats cool., i didnt think there was anyone else on here from around this area. i dont think im allowed to sell anything off the car, since now that its technically totalled, its the insurance companies. if you can find out more, sharon brown in the service center is the one that i was dealing with, and she knows all about the car, and the status of everything. If everything is cleared, then i wouldnt mind selling a few parts out of it. its only gna be up there for another day or so, so if you were to want the rear, you would have to put your stock one on it, it cant be without a bumper, or they insurance will charge me for it, and it could void my insurance. i know that im not able to get rid of any of the interior, as they already asked me to put everything back in, and ive already let them know that i have returned everything, with nothing missing. let me know, ill pm you my phone number.....

I might just find out what yard its going to and go from there ....if that wouldnt be too much trouble, but who knopws with Sullivans...they never tell us anything. Are you guys getting another J-body, or going in a different direction?
^^^^^^^^^^^ its going to be hard to track down once it is auctioned off, we get cars from all over Canada, and many parts of the US too. so the car could be anywhere in Canada or the US, but if you can find out what auction it is going to. you can call the auction center after the car is sold and find out where it went.

My 2001 Alero had flood damage, all the electronics were fine and it started but they still totaled it b/c of damage to the interior and water sucked into the intake
IMO they will write it off
Woops didn't finish the rest of the thread... sorry to hear about ur car, I feel ur pain :p
