Whats the best way to remove old gasket material? would a wire brush on a dremal hurt the block?? im trin to remove the old gasket off of the water pump area and it aint goin to well. Any tips?
I would say get a paint scraper and go to town.
its to tight to get anything but a razor blade in there and even then i cant get all the old gasket off, its like "glued" to the block.
Scotch-brite green scouring pads. You'll find them in the cleaning supplies section of your grocery store. They are durable, and won't gouge or scratch aluminum, let alone the iron of the engine block.
gasket scraper.

Ryan, if you have to resort to it, paint and varnish
remover is somewhat of a last resort...
(It's strong stuff)
Anyway, you can keep it off your hands by using
a cotton tipped swab stick and the cotton ball dipped...
Let us know what method you used...
i just ended up using a scoth-brit pad and a razor blade (cuttin myself 3 times) and got it down that it was fairly gone.
