my airbag light is always on but niether have ever deployed...is there some kind of reset so it goes away?

That's something you'll definitely want checked out at the dealer so that you can find out exactly whats tripping it.
What year is the car? In 97 the airbag crash sensor is under the carpet below the front passenger side seat. Is the seat belt light on, too? Your airbag module is probably trashed. Just another one of those electrical quirks we all love.
My brother hit a small deer with his 98 Z24, didn't pop the airbags but the airbag light in the dash in on. He's not driving it right now because his tranny is shot but someday he'll get it back on the road.
