Hi everybody!
Just having some problems with my car running at idle, I am almost convinced it was bad gas as it went away when usuing another brand of gas, car doesn't stall, just intermittant rough idling, still has lots of power once you come on to it, so I don't think its anything too severe. But its back doing it again!
Heres my question(s)
I've replaced plugs and boots, air filter and fuel filter, and cleaned throttle body, since I have owned the car at 90,000kms (now at 238,000kms) I have never replaced the pcv valve or air fuel seperator as I am told this car has instead.
My questions are, 1. could this be a potential cause and if so how would I test it to find out?
And 2. If it is the cause how is it replaced? I looked for it where the manual said it was behind the intake manifold but well honestly I don't know what I am looking for!
Is there also any other suggestions as to potential cause of the idling problems?
Thanks in advance
Jimmy
Welcome to the "2.4 rough idle" club. I'm the poster child, I've replaced just over $2000 in parts trying to fix it, still idles like crap. I have a 97 also.
The oil seporator is easy to find. It's attached to the duct that connects to the throttle body on one end and the timing cover on the other end. It's below the intake manifold, follow either hose through and it's there.
I don't know that there's a test for it, maybe someone here does.

Mines doing pretty good now, tried switching back to the good gas, and seems to have started running normal again, no shakes or stumbles
But if someone could tell me how to test the air fuel seperator that would be greatly appreciated
