OK I got 170,000 miles on my 01 z and the shoes have never been changed, I checked them tonight....and they are still good? what is up with that? no wonder I go through pads up front like they are going out of style!!! Are the drums not suppose to be self adjusting? can I adjust them up myself? please help cuz this just dont seem right to me...I was expecting the drums to be just total crap after 170,000 miles

They are supposed to adjust going in reverse. Sometimes the star wheel adjuster locks up and doesnt work.

Heres what I'd do if I was you.

Go to the parts store buy some special grease, forget the name its some high temp stuff, plus lubricant all in one.

Remove your star wheel adjuster, take it apart, only two pieces, and lubraicte that. Lubricate all the contact points where the the drum contacts the plate.

Next put on the drum, and spin it. It should spin, but should also have a light drag. If it spins very freely, the shoes arent adjusted out far enough.

Keep adjusting them until when you spin the drum there is a light drag on it.
