Pump or Head gasket

Last week my car start to show the Low Coolent light but it would only come on for like 5 mins then go off. Well i forgot about it till this week and i never got around to gettin coolent for it. Well i left today to go to a friends and next thing i know i look at the gauge and it was at RED! im like F$%^ and i pulled over quick and it went right down to normal within a mn. so all day it kept doin it so then i went to work and when i came out the car ran fine but then it started to over heat so i slowed down and it would help keep it out of the yellow. Heres what i seen the way home. The car would run at normal temp while the light was on but when the light would go off the car would start to over heat. its odd. I got home and looked i cant see anything leakin from the head anywhere nothings wet anywhere. I looked under the car today and now i can see theres coolent drippin from the dogbone and the exhaust. Still cant see anything from the head tho and it looks dry about the mount and exhaust.

yes, just pull out your oil dip-stick to see if it is a milky color, it will have a white color to it.

its probably the water pump, mine went out at 115,000 miles, it was leaking pretty bad but never over-heated. When I floored the gas pedal, the coolant light would come on, then when I backed off the gas, it went off, does yours do this? Is it leaking on the passenger side of the car? If it is, 99.9% sure its the water pump.

lol alright yea its leakin on the pass. side. But mine when i steped on it the temp would go up with my speed like a perfect match. Well atleast it isn't the $170 head gasket job.

At least also that a water pump is easier to change on a 2.2 than a 2.4.

true

I cant see anything leakin from the head so it has to be the water pump even tho i dont see anything from there either but i cant see under it so that must be it. Guess its time for a coolent change to from the crappy DExcool stuff to something decent and a 195* thermastat
