power window replacement
Thursday, July 27, 2006 12:04 PM
My passenger side window will stop moving up, (no problems moving down). if I wait a while and press the button again it will go up a little bit, I do this until I get it all the way up. The window is on track. My question is has this happened to anyone else? And is the motor the problem or the regulator or both?

This exact same thing happened to me just a month ago in my 02 cavy. I ended up having to get the window motor replaced. Then exactly 3 days later my driver side window just died (no up or down) and I had to get that replaced, which was again the window motor. I'm not sure if this could be a common defect or if the motors time just happened to be up. I was just glad it was covered by the extended warranty from my dealership(still had to pay the $100 deductable though).

im having the same problems with my 04 cav windows i have had both motors replaced last year and it is happing again but i think that it might be the window switch cause if i mess around with my switchs for a bit they go back up

it is your motor. happens all the time. we really need a sticky on this. there have been some pretty good writeups on how to do it yourself. not too hard to do.

I just had my car in for almost the exact same problem. They lubed the tracks (I think) and it seems to work fine now.

Same exact thing happened to my driver's side window 2 years ago. I replaced the window motor, and that fixed the problem. I'm not positive, but I think it was around $40 at Autozone. It has a liftime warranty so if it ever dies again, you get another for free.

It is always the moter not the switch. The reason it goes up a little then stop and goes up a litle more is because when it gets hot it stops working. When it cools a it goes up until it gets hot again. Sometimes it is an inch it goes up sometimes 5 inches. I know because mine did the same thing. I thought it was a screwy switch at first too. I have an 02 Cavy and the moter went out at only 28,00 miles. They are almost as crappy as the horns. I am about to replace my second one and my car now has 58,000 miles.

I am having the same problem. Left rear window died on me, then I came back the next morning and was able to roll it up (thankfully). I'm having trouble prying out the power window switch on the door trim so I can take it off to change the motor. What did you guys use to pry it out? Just a flat-head screwdriver? I've already scratched and chipped the trim trying to get it out, so any tips u can give would help a lot.

You can buy trim removal tools at the auto part store. I would reccomend using them since they are made for it. I dont think they are that expensive either.
