36.4 mpg
Saturday, July 22, 2006 2:18 PM
Went on a little cruise today. 185 miles, 90 percent on the highway at 68-70 mph. Put 20 bucks in the tank before I left (1.144 cents per liter/4.32 per gallon) and I used slightly more than that, maybe a few bucks more. Not too bad for a car with 153000 miles and a CEL on, eh?

I meant 1.144 dollars per liter, that was a typo.

Slow down to 55mph and you'll do even better. Under pure 55mph highway driving, my auto does 42mpg and my manual does 43mpg. Time is money, it's up to you.

i thought all ASE certified mechanics know what a CEL is?

I know that was the first thing they taught when i went back to school. But then again, i make much more money doing security then working on cars.

What would a car like my 95 likely get with a 2.2 and auto on the highway going 55-60?

If you've got the 3 speed, you probably won't break 40mpg even under the best conditions. I'm not sure how the earlier 2.2's do with fuel.

I'm calling BS on you being an automotive tech.

You dont know what CEL stands for even?

@!#$ I've been going to school for over three years for automotive repair, and I knew what that was before I even went there.

I got 37 in my cavalier plus 3 adults and a weeks worth of our clothes driving from TN to SC. Yeah we were cramped in it! It did great though. I babied it. On the way back, one of my friends rode with someone else. First tank with just 2 of us in the car was 34mpg becasue of traffic in ATL. The second tank was 39.8 or so with easy sailing at 70mph. 04 eco 5speed.
