hey do the 3gen sunfires with the 2.2 have idle screws? mine is idleing a bit below factory like 750 850 around there i would like to to idle smooth at 1000 or 950 thanks
My idle I think is 700 stock on my 04.
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
My idle is at 600 or so on a 2000 2200 cav. I would leave the idle screw alone

but do you guys know where it is?
I could be very wrong, but I didn't think it was adjustable.

Don't touch the screw!
It is not an idle adjustment, it is a minimum air adjustment. Moving the screw will not change the idle because the IAC valve will compensate. If you keep the throttle body from closing all the way, the IAC valve will be unable to keep a steady idle. The idle speed depends on your transmission. I have two 2200's, the manual idles at 900 RPM and the auto at 600 RPM. I'm trying to get the manual down to 600 RPM (by building a standalone IAC controller) because idle fuel consumption is high at 900. Even the auto at 600 RPM is quite smooth, raising the idle may reduce vibration, but it will increase noise and fuel consumption.

ok thanks for the heads up but what can i do to make my 2.2 idle more smooth it sounds like @!#$ when its just idleing away in the driveway
are u sure it's not the engine making the noises it normally does?

it could be i dont know what a good running 2.2 sounds like asfar as i know mine does run good never had probs but i dont know forsure this is my first car
How many miles are on the car? MAF or IAC clogged and dirty?

I know what a good running 2200 sounds like and I can tell you that the auto at 600rpm is quieter than the manual at 900. Both my 2200's are on full synthetic and run quite smoothly. From the inside of the car, the volume of the engine idling is comparable to the vent on the lowest speed. What kind of noises do you hear that you think increasing RPMs would get rid of?

it almost sounds like a ticking its not bad it really quite but some itmes i hear it and it piss's me off
It's normal, you have a 2.2. The ticking sound (if you would have search) is normal.
