hey guys, had alot of great help on here so far....have another simpler question...in regards to my 98 Sunfire GT (2.4L) with 247,000kms.....i want to replace my timing chain, gasket (obviously) and the tensioner. I called NAPA auto parts and for the KIT, which included:
- Timing chain
- Timing Chain Housing Gasket
- Rubber guides
- Tensioner
- Sprokets (?)
I need to change it because apparently whoever changed it last didnt reset the tensioner properly!? All this i was quoted with tax 664$ CDN!!! What is so expensive??? i thought the timing chain and gasket were cheap! Do i really need the sprokets? im sure thats what he called them, im guessing those are the gears that turn the chain....im having a friend do the work, i just needed to get him the parts....how much SHOULD i be looking at for the chain, gasket, guides and tensioner? Because 664$ just for parts is OUTRAGEOUS!
Thanks guys.
in the US, ours are bout $250US for the set. u can save money, and have more reliablity if u have them give u a spring tensioner instead of a hydraulic tensioner.
It's imposible to be that expensive. I got my whole set for the 2.3 for less than 100$ CAD.
I'll cehck with my machine shop and I'll let you know. It shouldn't be over 200$ CAD.

ya im being told that by many people....where else can i go to get the kit?
well tried calling again:
Timing chain $88
Gasket 98.60
Tensioner 120.09
Guides (4) 135.83
Kit (includes chain and sprokets) 365.32
Thats better than before, but still seems rather pricey....but ive called everywhere i can think of....guess i better get saving LOL
check northernautopart.com, CALL them and ask them for a full timing set.
its around 135$ US for chain, tensioner, guide, sproket, shoes. the only thing you wll have to buy is the gasketwhich you could order from rockauto.com.
i got my set on northernautopart and a couple parts from rockauto.

Also, in case you didn't know, the 2.4 is the 2.3 son. Also, I had a price list for the 2.4 parts and it's not that expensive. So take your stupid noob comment and put it somewhere.
