i have searched and read thru many posts regarding the issue of ac/heat blowing out all vents at the same time, the hvac control switch not switching between defrost, floor, vent, etc. after reading thru, i did not find any information as to how this was fixed. i have a 99 sunfire with the a/c blowing out of the floor and main vents all the time. i assume it is some type of vacuum issue. i switched the hvac control panel with no help. so....Question #1: How do i go about fixing this??
question #2: When i switch the hvac control to defrost setting, the ac light comes on automatically. is this normal or does it have something to do with the problem above???
thanks to anyone that can shed some light on my situation...

I am not sure about the vents issue but the A/C light with defrost is normal, well at least it does it with my car. Has something to do with drying the air i believe.
check you vac line coming in throug the bulk head, mine was split wen i had this problem
oh and about the A/C comin on with defrost, this is normal in ALL cars equipted with A/C. they do this, so in the winter the A/C compressor dosnt freeze up and crack the case (had it happen at work once) by runnin the compressor in the winter went u klet your car warm up with the defrosters on
in case its not that vacuum line here is the wiring diagram for your hvac controls
what color is the vacuum line i am looking for?? i pulled the main hvac control panel and have numerous hoses running off of the back of that panel. also, where is does this hose connect to inside the engine bay. thanks for all the input thus far. i have been driving myself nuts trying to figure this one out......

its the black one in the engine bay
after deciding to give up and put everything back together and live with it. i found the problem. it is not a vacuum problem, but a mechanical one. i had the radio pulled out and to the left of the openning where the radio should be there is a lever attached to a piece of plastic that diverts air to the floor or the vents. i put the lever back around the piece of plastic, but it simply fell off again when shifting from floor to vents. i am now trying to figure out how to get this to stay put. it looks like a real pain in the ass to get to if i have to remove the dash. anyway, i appreciate all the responses i received and will hopefully get this figured out over the weekend. thanks again.
