Well the only thing in the way of me passing my inspection now is a damn P1870 code that does not want to go away. Has anyone ever had this code before? I spoke with 2 local aamco shops in my area and they pretty much told me the same thing "P1870 usually means we will need to rebuild your transmission" "The total cost would be about $2,000" Which is not an option for $2000 I can do a entire engine and tranny swap. So back to the problem...how can i get rid of it even if its temp. Maybe one of those transmission treatment bottles? Does the 2.2 OHV engines have a drain plug for the tranny fluid or do I need to remove the tranny fluid pan?
i had that code a few years ago. it more or less means "transmission component slipping." have you noticed any weird behavior from your tranny? when mine threw that code i ended up needing to have the tranny rebuilt, new torque converter, and somehow i had shorted out the pcm, so that needed to be replaced. hopefully your situation isn't as severe and there is a quick fix for you. if you have the 3 speed auto, send a pm to madjack, he knows that tranny inside and out and would probably be able to come up with a solution to your problem
Yes, 3 speed but I really dont notice any weird behavior. Car has 97K Miles on it 2000 2.2 L OHV, it was just purchased a few months ago but as far as shifting it seems normal.
